October Art Exhibits
Rick and Joni Graves, a photographer and book artist respectively, share studio space and they often collaborate in their artistic endeavors. This month they've teamed up to bring two shows to the Spring Green Library.
Rick has 19 photographic prints of vintage typewriters in the Community Room Gallery. The images were made at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis, soon after the MCBA received the collection as a donation. The typewriters range from the late 1800s to the late 1960s. Although they all use some version of the QWERTY keyboard, it's interesting to see how that evolved over time. This exhibit can be viewed at any time during regular library hours when the room is not already in use. Please ask for the room key at the circulation desk.
Joni's display, in the Glass Case Gallery, showcases several of the handmade custom books that she's made for family, friends, clients and, most recently, for the Spring Green Literary Festival. The most whimsical book, which she had made for her husband's birthday, looks like a slice of layer cake. Her newest project is a book of challenged, banned, and disappeared books, which will be auctioned as part of the Lit Fest's fundraiser on October 25th. This exhibit can be viewed at any time during regular library hours.
You may see more of Rick and Joni's work at their studio during the Fall Art Tour, October 17-19. Their home and studio is about a mile from the Village in the Town of Spring Green and they will be Studio #20.
