How can I get a library card?
You may obtain a card at the Spring Green Library. When applying for a card we just ask for two things:
- Photo I.D.
- Proof of current address
A driver's license with a current address is the easiest way to apply. If you don't have that, we will accept a photo I.D. plus one of the following:
- A checkbook with your name and current address printed on it.
- A piece of mail, current bill, bank statement, or lease that has your name, current address and a postmark dated within the last 30 days.
Can I apply for a card at the Spring Green Library even if I don't live in Spring Green?
Yes, if you are a resident of a county in the South Central Library System (includes Adams, Columbia, Dane, Green, Portage, Sauk, and Wood counties) and do not have a library card from your local library, you can apply for a card at the Spring Green Library.
If you live in the Southwest Wisconsin Library System (includes Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Layette, and Richland counties) you can still get a card at the Spring Green Community Library. All you have to do is fill out two short applications. The day you apply, you will receive a temporary card that you can use to check out materials, and later you will get a Southwest Wisconsin Library System card in the mail. Just bring the Southwest Wisconsin Library System card into our library and we will attach our barcode to it. Or if it is more convenient for you, you can go to a Southwest Library System Library (nearby ones are Lone Rock and Dodgeville) to get your card there. Then bring your card into our library and we can attach our system barcode to it.
If you are a resident of the South Central System and have a card from your local library and it has a barcode on it, you can use that card at any of the South Central System counties. If your card does not have a barcode on it, then one needs to be attached before you can use it at Spring Green Library. We will need to see your library card and identification with your current address and photo I.D.
Upon presentation of the above the Spring Green Library will enter you into the system and attach a barcode number to your card and you will be able to borrow materials from us.
What should I do if I lose my library card?
If your card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately to your local library. If your card is presented for a check-out before you report it lost or stolen, you are responsible for the items checked out on it. If a card has been lost or stolen and you wish to receive a replacement card you must show ID in person at your local library.
If I move, should I contact the library?
Yes, you need to notify us of your change in address, so your record can be updated. Call the Spring Green Library at 608-588-2276 or call your local library to have it updated.
